Capuchin Museum, Milan
OCTOBER 27, 2024 – JANUARY 25, 2025
The Capuchin Museum presents an exhibition commemorating, after 800 years, the extraordinary episode of the stigmatization of Saint Francis of Assisi which occurred on September 17, 1224, highlighting the origin and profound meaning of the stigmata, the main iconographic attribute of Saint Francis.
Precious works from 1300 to 1600 are exhibited, coming from various Italian institutions including the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence, the Cariparma Foundation Art Collections and the Franciscan Museum in Rome.
A few other significant works, both on loan and selected from the heritage of the Cultural Heritage of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Lombardy, will mark a path in the Museum on the most relevant iconographic variants, identified in the theme of the stigmatization of Saint Francis of Assisi.
The calendar of events has been designed to enhance the historical, artistic, iconographic and iconological aspects of the works presented. Download it and participate in the initiatives.
