Approved warehouse

Approved warehouse

The Approved Warehouse authorization is one of the most important authorizations that the Union Customs Code and the Customs Agency make available to companies. This authorization, in fact, allows authorized parties to move and clear goods in complete autonomy at their own premises, or in any case at a previously authorized place, without the traditional obligation to carry out customs clearance operations at the relevant customs office.
Through art. 139 of the CDU, the Customs Agency has simplified customs procedures, authorizing import-export operations at the Approved Place.

Exports to non-EU countries have long required a complex customs clearance process, with consequent costs and risks for exporters.
The ordinary customs clearance procedure has charges such as the detention of goods in customs, the cost of customs clearance (if not Ex-Works), the request for return of the Export Accompanying Document (DAE) or the customs declaration (DAU – Single Administrative Document), as well as the verification of the MRN and the payment for the return of the DAE.

"In house" import and export

This is a long and complex process, which can lead to delays in delivery, in addition to the risk of sanctions.

Thanks to this simplification of customs regulations, Butterfly Transport, having obtained the status of Approved Warehouse, has the possibility of carrying out import or export customs operations directly “in house”. You can simply choose your own office or places authorized by the Customs and Monopolies Agency to receive or ship the goods, instead of physically taking the goods to the competent customs office.

Differences between classic and in-house customs clearance

Classic procedure

  • Preparation of the load and documentation
  • Delivery of the goods to the forwarder
  • Stopping of the goods at customs for examination of documents
  • Stop of the carrier at the exit customs where the “exit visa” is certified, i.e. proof of exportation
  • Search/request for a copy of the export customs declaration or the MRN (Movement Reference Number), which certifies the actual exit of the goods from the customs territory of the Union

Approved Warehouse

  • Preparation of cargo and documentation
  • Preparation of the export customs declaration and delivery to the forwarder, immediately having the MRN identifier
  • Departure of the goods, without waiting
  • The carrier shows the declaration to the exit customs, which automatically certifies the Exit Visa.

Efficiency and transparency

Obtaining an Authorized Warehouse has significant benefits, both in terms of customs clearance times and costs, and for the peace of mind of direct management of operations and documentation, with a lower risk of problems and unforeseen events. Butterfly Transport is also a full AEO operator. This authorization, combined with that of Approved Warehouse, entails various benefits that are reflected throughout the customs clearance process of goods, including:

  • Significant reduction in customs clearance times
  • Significant reduction in control operations
  • Priority in control visits
  • Reductions on the guarantees due to the Customs Agency for the release of various authorized procedures
  • Possibility to clear import/export goods through customs at your own premises 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, regardless of the Incoterms yield chosen for delivery and without limits on the customs heading
  • Direct production and management of all documentation, including the Exit Visa, with the cancellation of all problems related to the failure to return the DAU or the failure to close the MRN
  • Reduction in the risk of sanctions
