Mario Reviglione – Loving restlessness

Mart, Museum of modern and contemporary art of Trento and Rovereto

16 JULY 2023 – 5 NOVEMBER 2023

The Mart dedicates a large exhibition to Mario Reviglione, painter, engraver and designer active in the early twentieth century. Of a shy temperament, Reviglione took his first steps in Turin at the beginning of the century; he quickly distances himself from academic languages, which he considers outdated, and comes into contact with the modernist circles that orbit around the figure of Leonardo Bistolfi. Close to Symbolism, of which he collects the suspended and fantastic atmospheres, he defines his own original artistic language, distant from fashions and supported by numerous critics. He obtained recognition and prizes, participated in three Venice Biennials (in 1907, 1912 and 1926) and in the International Art Exhibition of the Secession in Rome (1913).

After the First World War, his unconventional outlook and reserved character led Reviglione to retire to private life and lead an increasingly more secluded existence.

The exhibition “Mario Reviglione. L’amorosa inquietudine” restores the rightful centrality to one of the most interesting and least known artists of the last century. Through 60 works, including paintings, drawings, engravings and documents, it reconstructs Reviglione’s artistic career in its entirety for the first time.
