PALAZZO DUCALE – MANTUA
October 10, 2026, 9:00 AM – October 10, 2026, 6:00 PM
Four hundred years after the passing of Ferdinando Gonzaga, the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua is dedicating a major exhibition to the Duke—a figure who stands at the heart of the final great era of artistic patronage under the Gonzaga dynasty, and who was himself a refined patron and collector.
The exhibition explores this exceptional historical and artistic period of the Gonzaga family through works drawn from prestigious Italian and international collections. These include the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna, the National Galleries of Ancient Art in Rome, the Fondazione Magnani Rocca in Mamiano di Traversetolo, and the Civic Museums of Rimini and Treviso, as well as international institutions such as the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden, and the Louvre and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. The exhibition also features previously unseen works from private collections.
The display brings together masterpieces by Rubens, Pourbus, Algardi, Manfredi, and many other key figures of the era—artists who helped shape the artistic identity of Mantua during the reign of Ferdinando.
