PALAZZO ALBERGATI – BOLOGNA
October 9, 2026 – March 27, 2027
Presented to the world for the very first time, the renowned and highly exclusive Carmen Thyssen Collection makes its debut in Bologna at Palazzo Albergati, featuring over 100 masterpieces.
Beginning October 9, 2026, the great masters of the 20th century—from Gaudí (marking the centenary of his death this year) to Dalí, as well as Picasso, Miró, Rusiñol, Mir, Nonell, Togores, Torres-García, Julio González, and many others (some never before seen in Italy)—bring to life a magical era: early 20th-century Barcelona, a vibrant city where modern art was born.
Curated by Jordi Falgàs, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to admire a wide selection of works destined for the permanent collection of the future Museu Carmen Thyssen Barcelona.
It is an exhibition filled with charm and poetry—an invitation to dream amidst the cafés of Barcelona, stroll through the Mediterranean light, and discover the creative energy of one of the most intense periods in the history of art.
Beyond its extraordinary aesthetic appeal, the exhibition serves as an invitation to explore a singular, unrepeatable era—spanning from the late 19th century to the 1930s—when the paths of great artists and architects converged in Barcelona. Some were born in the city itself, while others arrived from elsewhere in Spain, the rest of Europe, or South America. All of them maintained an intense dialogue with Paris and helped lay the foundations for the great artistic revolution that would give rise to the 20th-century avant-garde movements, from Cubism to Surrealism.
