Shirin Neshat – BODY OF EVIDENCE

PAC – Milan
MARCH 28, 2025 – JUNE 8, 2025

The Pavilion of Contemporary Art in Milan presents the large solo exhibition of Iranian artist Shirin Neshat (1957, Qazvin), winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1999, the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival in 2009 and the Praemium Imperiale in Tokyo in 2017. The exhibition retraces over thirty years of career, through almost two hundred photographic works and a dozen video installations, which have become part of the major museum collections in the world, such as those of the Whitney Museum, the MoMA, the Guggenheim in New York and the Tate Modern.

A multidisciplinary artist, Neshat has explored photography, video, cinema and theatre, creating highly lyrical narratives, as well as politically charged visions, that question issues of power, religion, race and relationships between past and present, East and West, individual and collective.
The lens through which Neshat interprets the History and Contemporaneity not only of her country of origin, Iran, but of the entire world, is the gaze of women: from her debut in the early 1990s with the photographic series Women of Allah, the famous female bodies decorated with poetic calligraphy, to The Fury, a video installation that anticipates the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Milan – Culture, produced by PAC and Silvana Editoriale, is curated by Diego Sileo and Beatrice Benedetti and is one of the flagship events of the Milan Art Week, the program that will transform the city into a stage dedicated to art in all its expressions (from 1 to 6 April).
