As a fitting conclusion to the celebrations for the centenary of the National Archaeological Museum of Tarquinia (1924 – 2024), the exhibition “1437. The Madonna by Filippo Lippo, Tarquinia and Cardinal Vitelleschi” has been extended until May 4, 2025.

A project deeply felt by the city and its community, characterized by a high cultural and symbolic value, which offers everyone the opportunity to visit Tarquinia and its museum during the Christmas holidays and in the Jubilee year. But above all, which tells and reconstructs the relationship of reciprocity that exists between the city, the cardinal and the work.

THE EXHIBITION

Organized by PACT as part of the activities of the Department for Cultural Promotion of the Ministry of Culture and with the decisive support of the General Directorate of Museums, thanks to an agreement with the National Galleries of Ancient Art – Palazzo Barberini – Galleria Corsini and in collaboration with the Municipality of Tarquinia and the Diocese of Civitavecchia-Tarquinia, the exhibition, by systematizing the results of recent studies, illustrates the links between art, religion and power in Tarquinia in the first half of the fifteenth century, presenting Filippo Lippi’s masterpiece in its original context of destination and relations, with its important aristocratic palace, its churches and its spirituality, in particular that developed by the Augustinian order.
